Over time, the Amazons lose sight of their mission and fall under the influence of Ares. In response, a group led by Queen Hippolyte recommits to their sacred purpose. Years later, when Hippolyte longs for the child she never had, the goddesses instruct her to shape a daughter from clay. They breathe life into the figure, and she names the child Diana. As Diana grows, the goddesses call upon the Amazons to select a champion to confront a new threat from Ares. Diana wins the contest and sets out into the world of men—Patriarch’s World—as the Amazons’ chosen defender.
